The Early Buzz: Spring/Summer 19 Road Lookbook

5 am in Phoenix is all Chris King hub buzz and carbon rim whirr. “There could be 50, 60, 70 people in the middle of the night just streaming down the road,” says Paul Stevenson, Technology Project Manager at Arizona Outback Adventures and part-time 7mesh model. “It’s kind of bizarre.”

Summers are too hot in Arizona, at least if you’re riding. So the locals tend to get up and out early – and go hard. “Those rides, in particular, are hammerfests,” he laughs, “so they get strung out a bit. But I think that early in the morning, with that many cyclists, we more or less take a lane. There’s not a whole lot of cars out to give us any trouble.”

For the 7mesh Spring/Summer ’19 road collection, we flew on down to Phoenix to shoot new colours of the Quantum for men and women, the men’s Merino Ashlu (women’s version coming soon), WK2 women’s bib short, and the all-new MK3 Bib Short – the third edition of our proven long distance, hyper-comfortable road cycling bib short. We even got to squeeze off a few shots of the Polartec® Alpha-insulated Freeflow Jacket. But not without some confusion. “That jacket blew my mind,” says Paul. “I mean, I looked at it and thought no way ’s that going to be warm – there’s not enough insulation, and it’s too thin. But actually, it was super warm and soft. That jacket was great. I would wear it any day.”
